I am a Southeast Queens mother, public school biology teacher, organizer, and a proud democratic socialist running for State Assembly in District 32. I'm running because our system is broken, our community is at its breaking point, and Southeast Queens deserves affordability, stability, and leadership that puts working families first.
I was not born into politics; I was raised to work hard, serve others, and speak up when something is not right. As a mother of four and a public school teacher serving students from immigrant, working-class, and marginalized communities, I have witnessed firsthand how rising costs, housing instability, and underfunded public services strain families.
In the classroom, I see how economic pressure follows students into their education. Outside of school, I have worked alongside neighbors, seniors, and parents to confront food insecurity, educational inequities, and the lack of affordable housing that continues to push longtime residents out of Southeast Queens.
The recent danger of mass eviction at Rochdale Village driven by sharp increases in carrying charges revealed just how fragile housing stability has become in our community. Hundreds of working families, many of them seniors and longtime residents on fixed incomes, were confronted with housing costs that suddenly became unaffordable.
In a development created to provide stable, affordable homeownership, residents found themselves facing the terrifying possibility of displacement simply because their monthly carrying charges rose beyond what they could pay. No family in Southeast Queens should be pushed to the brink of eviction due to sudden cost increases in the very homes meant to provide security.
"As a mother, I understand that the decisions made today shape the lives our children will inherit. I refuse to stand by while working families struggle, and I am ready to lead the fight for a stronger, more affordable Southeast Queens in Albany."
I did not set out to run for office, but this moment demands courage and accountability. Families in Southeast Queens are working harder than ever while rent increases, grocery prices rise, and essential services become harder to access.
Too often, decisions are made without meaningful input from the very people who are most affected. I believe public office should reflect the lived experiences of the community, not the interests of political insiders.
Across our district, there is a growing desire for leadership that prioritizes affordability, housing stability, strong public schools, and transparent government. I am running a people-powered campaign because I believe this seat belongs to the community, and I am committed to building a movement rooted in trust, service, and collective action.
Southeast Queens is my home, and it is where my family lives. I am ready to serve with integrity and to fight for a future in which working families can afford to stay, build wealth, and thrive in the community they love.
